South Texas Medical Clinics Laboratory is responsible for all aspects of diagnostic laboratory testing and consultative laboratory services. The Wharton Lab performs a wide variety of highly-automated, high-volume laboratory tests. Our equipment is state-of-the-art and most of the diagnostic testing is performed in this lab. Highly-specialized diagnostic tests are sent to reference labs such as Quest. Each of our clinics have lab facilities on-site equipped to perform basic diagnostic testing. Any tests needed but not performed in our satellites are sent to the Wharton Lab.
Area physicians not associated with STMC also utilize our lab for diagnostic testing. Patients don't have to travel far from home for specimen collection and physicians have test results in a timely manner. |

Phlebotomists are responsible for the collection of your blood specimens. These trained technicians strive to make your blood draw as quick and painless as possible for you and your family.
South Texas Medical Clinics maintains CLIA accreditation and COLA certification. This means that they comply with standards set by these nationally recognized organizations. COLA accreditation is given only to labs that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey. The STMC Rosenberg Lab received the Excellence Award from COLA in 2001 as an outstanding lab. This award is given only to labs that have no deficiencies noted at an on-site inspection, that have no proficiency testing failures during the past year, and that have no valid complaints against them registered with HCFA. This award was created by COLA to give labs a special recognition when they have proved exemplary patient testing performance.
Additional services provided for our employers are Drug Screen Collection and Testing and Breath Alcohol Testing. The drug screening services are offered at all of the clinic sites. Breath alcohol testing is offered only in the Wharton and Rosenberg offices.
