Optometry is a health care profession concerned with eyes and related structures, vision, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans. Optometrists are qualified to diagnose and treat eye diseases such as infections and glaucoma. They also advise customers on aesthetics.
Like most professions, optometry education, certification, and practice is regulated in the United States. Optometrists and optometry-related organizations interact with governmental agencies, other health care professionals, and the community to deliver eye and vision care. Optometrists are one of three eye care professionals, the others being ophthalmologists (medical doctors) and opticians. |
