Ophthalmologists, or eye doctors, have the knowledge and professional skills needed to provide comprehensive eye and vision care.  They are medically-trained to diagnose, monitor, and medically or surgically treat all visual disorders.  This includes problems affecting the eye, eyelids, and orbital visual pathways.  In so doing, they often prescribe vision services including glasses and contact lenses.
