STMC's
roots go back to the Outlar-Blair Clinic and Rugeley and Blasingame
Clinic, two highly respected local medical organizations, which
competed aggressively for decades and raised the quality of care
to new heights for our rural communities. The clinics were among
the first medical clinics outside the Houston area to offer specialists.
Consequently, Wharton, Texas became the choice for many patients
on the Gulf Coast in need of quality specialty care who did not
want to travel to Houston. With the advent of managed care, these
longtime competitors set aside their differences in 1985 and joined
forces to face the challenges of the changing health care system.
Following
the clinics' merger, the physicians of STMC, P.A. personally financed
and built a modern medical facility at its present location to continue
the tradition of medical growth, excellence, and expansion of ancillary
services available to the patients. In addition to the lab and radiology
services available at that time, the group added a pharmacy and
optical shop for the patient's convenience.
