STMC's roots go back to the Outlar-Blair Clinic and Rugeley and Blasingame Clinic, two highly respected local medical organizations, which competed aggressively for decades and raised the quality of care for our rural communities. These clinics were among the first medical clinics outside the Houston area to offer care from medical specialists. Consequently, Wharton, Texas, became the choice for many patients living on the Gulf Coast, in need of quality specialty care, who did not want to travel to Houston. With the growth of managed care, the Outlar-Blair and Rugeley and Blasingame Clinics set aside their differences and joined forces in 1985 to face the challenges of the changing health care system.

Following the Clinics' merger, the physicians of South Texas Medical Clinics. personally financed and built a new medical facility in Wharton to continue the tradition of medical growth, excellence, and expansion of medical services available to patients.

For the convenience of our patients, the large medical Clinic in Wharton provides a range of medical imaging services including radiology (X-ray), MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, digital mammography, ultrasound, and bone densitometry. The full-service medical laboratory at the Wharton Clinic also provides state of the science diagnostic testing.
